Auditions:
Auditions & Band Assignment
The Grapevine High School Mustang Band will hold open auditions for anyone who desires to be a member of the GHS Mustang Band program on Thursday May 8th. Please pick up an audition packet in the band hall, locate a current band member, or contact a band director for more information.
All band students who are enrolled in the G.H.S. band program must go
through an audition process for placement in a concert band class. The
audition process and material is the same for all students. The purpose of
auditions is to insure proper class placement according to ability level.
The audition process is not to screen students out of the program but to
insure their correct placement. Auditions are held each spring to
determine band assignments for the following year. At the end of
auditions, students are placed into one of the four performing groups:
Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Honors Band or Wind Ensemble.
Generally, a students band assignment is constant for the entire school
year. On occasion, a student may be considered for a higher or lower band
placement during the year because of such factors as instrumentation
needs, outcome of individual performance evaluations, behavior problems,
attendance concerns, and/or academic performance.
Students rank and chair order within each performance group is set at the
beginning of the school year by the audition score. Band students have
several opportunities to improve their individual chair order throughout
the year. Contact your band director for more information on challenges
and chair order.Marching Band Auditions
All four bands will be involved in the marching band activities such as
pep-rallies, football games, marching contests, and parades as one band.
They will meet as separate organizations during the class day for concerts
and evaluations and join together as one large organization during
rehearsals that occur outside of the regular school day. Auditions for
placement in the marching band show will usually occur during the first
week of summer band camp. Students will begin the year designated as
either a "numbered spot" or an "alternate spot". The purpose
of the
audition is to insure proper placement in the marching band organization
according to ability level. The audition process is not to screen students
out of the program but to insure their correct placement. Many
opportunities will be given for students to be re-evaluated during the
marching season.
