Summer Reading Summer reading is the most important activity your child can do to enhance academic achievement. Reading for pleasure strengthens students' understanding of concepts across curriculum areas. Reading builds vocabulary, comprehension and reading rate. The GCISD language arts department grades K-12, requires students to read at least two books during the summer months. Your child may select books from the Tayshas list, or books of his or her own choosing to read. The opportunity to select one's own reading is a first step to becoming a life-long reader. Your help in ensuring quality choices for reading, as well as completion of the assignment, will help your child become a better reader. Thank you for your support. Language Arts Teachers |
